Contemporary Description

This is a late-nineteenth century polka sequence by J. N. Worthington, described in Kopp's American Prompter in 1896.

The Position

Holding inside hands at the level of the Follow's shoulder for Part I. Waltz position for Part II.

The Dance

Part I (8 Counts)

Holding inside hands at the level of the Follow's shoulder:

Point outside feet along LOD (1), sweep it out and around away from partner (2), and forward through into a polka step forward (3-and-4).

Repeat opposite, against LOD (5, 6, 7-and-8).

Part II (8 Counts)

In waltz position:

Dance La Esmeralda, turning 540° in total.


Repeat the whole sequence all on the opposite foot (16 counts).
